If Freenas supported WOL so that it would suspend or hibernate when it's not busy, then the power usage factor would not be an issue, but as far as I know it's not simple to set up.

I have a 1512+ and it won't do 1080p transcoding to my ipad. I had to turn it down to 2mb/s 720p. When I transcode on my mac mini, it would swing the 1080p no problems.
