I didn't need any firmware update. I checked and found out my firmware from factory shipped was the latest. And the initial installation went through well, no issues.

When you buy it they typically do have the latest available firmware installed. But they might have updated since you bought it. The latest is 2.25 and was released Oct 8th.

If the SSD is used as a cache drive for Intel Smart Response (Z68/Z77) it doesn't really matter if the drive dies. OCZ released a firmware update to version 2.25 on October 5th for their Sandforce...
