The 50mm 1.4 is EF, so it works with full frame. The 55-250 EF-S, on the other hand, is for crop sensors only. Using an EF-S lens on a FF camera can actually cause physical damage to the mirror...

I'm pretty sure you can use these for FF cameras (at least the 50mm 1.4). Just be aware that you'll get different quality with FF vs 1.6 crop at different stops, but I think that's true for all...

I dont think theres much difference on this with the nifty fifty. Except better build quality. But if you need that extra 1/2 stop of light. Its a good lens for the price.
