I installed this memory in my late 2011 MBP about 3 months ago. Mountain Lion had no problem recognizing the upgrade from 8GB. Now I have RAM to spare when running my VM's.

Of the top of my head I can tell you that your cpu won't be able to utilize the full 1600 speed, and it will get downclocked to at least 1333. There's no point for you to pay the premium for 1600...
