That's just a one more urban legend. Read engineers, or 12 point sales pitch reminiscent of them, rather then spreading rumors. None, both are mostly useless for car repair. Get a decent 3/8...

Read those long before your "advice" and found many who say those theories are flawed. I agree with the flawed theory folks. Real life experience has completely backed that up. That's one of the...

12 points are more likely to round off a bolt head.

Hmm.. less surface on each tooth I guess? Either way - good to keep in mind to not torque too much on a bolt if it's stuck :) ;)

I deal with engineering for a living, project managing and selling log and timber structures. Engineering is not the end-all do-all in the construction world; its often flawed in reality, and...

I for one am a bit surprised that there are sceptics on the comparison between 12 point and 6 point; certainly applications for both, but based on personal experience absolutely no doubt that 12...

That urban legend is a fact if you are working with compromised (IE rusted) fasteners, not so much with brand new healthy heads.

True, but the 12 point will get you into tighter spaces since it works in a narrower degree of sweep. I'm like you though, if I can get a 6 point socket or wrench on it, that's what I'm using. ...

Depends on what kind of car - but to be honest, buy both. The one time you find out you needed SAE when you ended up buying the Metric set and end up stripping a bolt head.... it's worth the extra...

Um, no. Please school me on the physics of fasteners and engrish.
Post #54601154 added 11-08-2012 9:37 PM by VladC in Archived Deals
Well, if you obviously can't find a better teacher for engrish, it's useless to preach you more complex things like engineering. On it see my previous advice to you though.

Does HF tools have lifetime warranty? I've always preferred Craftsmen because it's just a simple task of running to the store to get it swapped.

In all the work I've done, I've never even come close to rounding off a bolt with a 12 point wrench or socket. As long as they are quality tools the tolerances should be good enough for it to not be...
