I have had a Samsung 3D since 2009 I use the 3D occasionally on my PS3 games and rarely on movies. The wife says it hurts her head. I do use it when she's not around for ESPN occasionally.

How often do you actually use 3D on your set. I have no children and dont play games. Just wondering if it is worth the extra expense.

maybe 5% of the time I watch 3D...it is interesting and movies like Avatar are really good
But the other things you have to consider
any "better" TV these days has 3D

But Samsung active glasses have been $19.99 for at the past year....and you generally get at least 2 sets with most ..if not all...their newer LED...

It's very subjective but if you like the idea of 3d, you'll probably enjoy it on your home tv. I have a passive 3d set and prefer to watch movies in 3d...

Its looks "sharper" to me
or maybe its the TV's that use active have better picture quality...ie...Samsung...Panasonic

Short answer is hardly at all.
Have the LG7600. It has free 3D content as part of the smart TV but they are boring to me so never watch. Tried the 2D to 3D conversion but not really impressed...
