How about in a desktop under constant usage? I've heard the WD Green line has problems with aggressive head parking leading to shortened drive life. I have one now, but it's in use almost non-stop...

Very good to hear they've addressed the problem - the issue isn't really how much wrap is surrounding the HDD's, but whether or not they can slide around in the box, or they are packed solidly. I'll...

Thank you for your input. And for such a quick reply. I have purchased two Samsung 830 SSDs for my operating system. However, I'd still like to get a bigger HD for my desktop. Partly because my...

Hard drive prices will likely be lower on BF. I am about to construct a NAS and I am waiting.

I know that these 2TB Red drives are optimized for for NAS usage. However, I already have 3TB drives for my (eventual) NAS. Right now I need a 2TB desktop drive. I have been waiting for a $130 -...

if you're building a NAS, then you should go ssd for your desktop IMO 'good enough' is relative - do you value the extra warranty? speed? heat? blacks are overkill for most desktops...there's...

An important note on HDD's shipped from NewEgg - as of about a year ago, their packing practices with HDD's led to a number of physical abuses by UPS that led to DOA hard drives - this is reflected...

Before the flood the Seagate Green 2TB was found as low as $70 regularly. Does the NAS features and bigger cache demand the extra $39 for this? Don't think so. Not yet.

This drive is going to fall to $99 really soon. We might even see $89 by EOY.

The Red drives are worth the extra money if you are putting them in a NAS. There are features specific to NAS. It's not the right drive for other uses. Here's a link that explains the benefits.

I just bought four WB 3TB Green drives from them and the packaging was very good. They were sitting in the hard styrofoam (like the one here, but only 4 slots) bubble wrapped and taped very well....

It's a great drive for NAS. If you want a desktop drive, it's still a good drive, but you're paying for NAS specific features that are not necessary in a desktop. If you need this drive, it's a...

The WD Red are IMO, the best balance of performance and price for media storage. The greens are too slow, and the blacks are too fast. I've heard about poor NewEgg shipping practices years ago. ...

Red would probably be a waste for that type of usage. Its features are really aimed at NAS use. An enterprise-class drive is the most reliable for your usage, but you should be fine with a desktop...
