It works, but it would charge much slower. You are better off getting a 5V 2A adapter.

I imagine so. It says it works with latest generation Kindle. My wife uses the same cord to charge her regular Kindle, Kindle Fire HD, and cell phone. It's a standard micro-USB connection.
