At this point a lot of ppl have answered your questions, but it would be impolite to not reply :) As others has stated this is inferior to the 830 so $140 is my base price...personal baseline.

Intel is better at this point only because it's been around longer, so there is more experience with the drive in the real world.

Be careful, the lifespan of 840 is only 1/3 of 830 !!!
Post #54820268 added 11-15-2012 12:39 PM by Arreo in Archived Deals
Which means that with wear leveling you would have to write 275TB of data to this drive before it hit that threshold. Is the 840 the successor to the 830? No it isn't, that is what the 840 Pro is...

Same here. I suspect that a typical user will never run into issues related to drive endurance with 840. If you're still planning on using it after 7 years, it'll still work fine..

the 7 year is for lite use. or estimated at 10 G writes per day. if you have multiple VM running or system turned on 24/7, you should reduce that number accordingly. open your windows resource...

This. All the reviews that I've seen comparing the 830, 840 and 840 Pro have run limited endurance tests, gone by what the manufacturer said, and then extrapolated out an expected lifespan of the...

Thanks OP, was considering this or the 830 and this is a good enough price for me.

According to PC Parts Picker, this is regular price, it just has been kinda inflated the last week or so. http://pcpartpicker.com/us/part/samsung-internal-hard-drive-mz7td250bw

That may mean something, or it may mean nothing. We don't know how Anandtech handled the drive.

Random write speeds are the key factor. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6337/samsung-ssd-840-250gb-review/5 The 840 and 840 pro both beat out the 830 in that realm

B&H has it for $160. Personally I wouldn't buy it until it reach $140 but if u really must have it then this is the cheapest price. Just want to let ppl know that prices of the regular 840 is...

The 830 is a better drive. The TLC drives look like they may have a shorter life span. Unless its the 840 pro.

The 840 seems to lag behind the 830 in test from what I've seen, but holds its own in read-heavy applications - which is a good thing! Check out reviews here and here for examples. It looks to have...

Here's the benchmarks: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/678?vs=532 830 beats it in the sequential writes, though 840 seems better in the other areas (random writes/reads, sequential reads).

I wouldn't touch the 840 model with a ten foot pole, but 840 Pro is the true successor to 830 series in my book, just the price is too high. Samsung is trying to create a new "enthusiast" market...

So what you're telling us is that at 3k writes, the TLC drive with decent wear leveling (and before accounting for any voodoo associated with deterioration prevention) should process about 750 TB of...

It should be ok for most needs, Samsung wont be pushing too far if it wasn't looking acceptable enough to cut costs with. It depends on the individual user's needs. Myself it might be cutting it...

Why would you be looking at this offer in this case? Just buy a bunch of 830s or 520s and be done with it. If you're looking for an 830.... just get the 830.

True that, but it's still hard to get rid of the fear that my data is being stored in a more fragile manner compared to the MLC in Samsung 830. But also since nobody is using these drives for more...

Samsung can probably only make that claim because the drive is larger than "most typical MLC SSDs on the market".

TLC is cheaper to make, so ssds based on TLC should be cheaper in the long run. Samsung is one of the unique players since they both make the drive and manufacture the TLC chips. It's just a...

I am curious about the whole 830 versus 840 debate. I got in on the Intel 330 180GB for $99. And to be quite honest, the only thing keeping me from opening it is the thought of a $130 256GB 830 or...
