I think the signage was wrong. Comparing UPC codes, the 1Tb Back up plus is $69.99 and the 500Gb is $49.99. The nice folks at Target acknowledged the mistake and gave me the 1Tb Plus for $49.99.

Saw one 750gb expansion on the shelf and I think 3 kinds of 1tb portable at the local target--expansion, backup plus, and go-flex. The goflex had a sticker for $49, but none to be seen in the area...

but this is 2.5" drive, so you should be comparing it to recent price of 2.5" drives. 3tb desktop drive for $90 yesterday, but I'd still rather buy a 2tb portable drive for $150, which I did.

My first USB 3.0 drive, and boy is it fast. What I didn't know is that you can also use these with standard microUSB cables, so you don't always need to have the USB 3.0 cable around. Pretty cool!

No, it hooks up fine to my Mac USB2 slot. The Micro-USB3 connector is on the drive side of the cabe and the host side has a standard USB2 connector. Here is a picture of the cable.
