I'm thinking it has to do with the three antenna design on the 4300 vs two antenna on the 3600. It's essentially the same hardware except for that. For some reason three antenna is performing worse.

I went with the TP because I wanted external antennas, and it was cheaper, making it an easier choice to upgrade later when ac becomes more established. You can't go wrong with either in the end.
