What I meant is that some of the others part will die, CPU, GPU, Display, etc and it will become obsolete that you will likely replaced it before you ever do with your SSD.

Meh, I've still seen plenty of motherboards fail, memory sticks fail, and video cards fail even with the advent of better capacitors. Yeah, normally an entire computer doesn't fail all at the same...

I bought my 830 in March and I am a normal user. The estimate is still over 1000 days and my SSD Health is down to 98%. Take that and extrapolate and you can get an approximate lifespan, at least...

This is using TLC which each bit has 1/3 the life of any MLC SSD. Good luck guys.

Thanks perfect for my MBP!!!!
Think there'll be a better SSD deal for BF?
Post #54992080 added 11-20-2012 8:50 AM by av911 in Archived Deals
Irrelevant. Unless you're writing 500GB of data everyday, this SSD will last longer than ANY components in your computer.

I really want to upgrade my MacBook Pro's 120GB SSD + 750GB HDD to a 512GB SSD x 2 setup. I just don't think the costs currently justify the upgrade. I'm sure with a couple more months passing,...

For people buying for their home computers the 840 is going to be a faster drive for them than the 830 - Look at AnandTech's results and their conclusion yourself. ...

Perf is only one dimension, I have reservations over using commodity TLC NAND in place of the (more expensive) MLC. The reliability of these SSD's is only going to be provable after devices have...

Is this hard drive going to be strong enough?
Post #54983424 added 11-20-2012 4:39 AM by lnx in Archived Deals
No, it is doubtful this drive lifts.

It's not as good as the samsung 830 series, but still a very good ssd. Front page for sure.

Keep in mind, this is the 840, not the 840 pro. The performance is a bit lower than the last gen Samsung. I ordered one anyway.

The difference with these other components is they typically don't take your data with them. Not so with hard drives / SSD's, they're the single most important (and painful) thing to fail for the...

Don't you like how the people claiming the 840 is better link to a specific benchmark with only a slight edge. How about reading the rest of the article to see the truth.

Absolutely. This is even more misleading than the video card naming scheme.

Post #54990148 added 11-20-2012 8:07 AM by dqniel in Archived Deals
Everything is relative. In the grand scheme of things, the performance difference is very small between all of the bunched up SSDs on those graphs. The 830 is usually near the middle of the pack...
