The amount of power your ram uses is negligible compared to the cpu, gpu(if present), and, in the case of laptops, the display. Adding a ram stick will not be a significant drain on battery.

Didn't have that problem on mine. Check the Power Profile for power saving on the wireless. You might want to try disabling it for testing purposes - set it to 'Performance' IIRC.
