Yeah, a 26" should be fine. If you're 6' or taller then I would recommend the 29er as it feels like a better fit. But if you're a novice then it probably won't matter and you'll grow accustomed to...

Since you'll probably have to pay a LBS to assemble the Diamondback and then adjust brakes and derailers a couple months down the line it would be best to go with the Trek as it should save you money...

I tried this out at my local dick's sporting goods a couple of months ago, it was 299 at the time (just regular price). The bike feels pretty good , just a tad heavy. The geometry felt great for me....

The fact that it doesn't have disc brakes is better. Cheap disc brakes are garbage and squeal. Not for serious mountain biking but good to ride everyday and dirt trails.
