I'm 5'10 myself and ride a large frame. Frames can vary though and primarily you should be concerned about standover height. If you get off the bike and stand, it shouldn't be crushing anything.

Since you'll probably have to pay a LBS to assemble the Diamondback and then adjust brakes and derailers a couple months down the line it would be best to go with the Trek as it should save you money...

The fact that it doesn't have disc brakes is better. Cheap disc brakes are garbage and squeal. Not for serious mountain biking but good to ride everyday and dirt trails.
