In my experience, DL disks are far more prone to coastering if you don't pony up. They are still useful for burning DL films, either AVCHD/DVD9s. DVD+R is also superior compatibility-wise in...

Most other brands are a lot cheaper, but I think Verbatim has two things going for it: they know xbox modders need Verbatims, and their "Azo" technology that supposedly helps the data on the disk...

For data it isn't much worth getting DVD DL media anymore since a 25GB BD-R runs around the same price per disc. I bought the TDK 50 pack from NewEgg for $30 on BF.

I don't think there's a way to say for sure how bad any disc is. DigitalFAQ lists UME discs as "3rd Class Media / Cheap, Unreliable, or Complete Junk Discs." You might get some good burns with them,...
