The 840 uses TLC, while the older 830 uses MLC. See this review for an excellent comparison. Personally, I prefer the 830.

Intel has much better trim support on their drives. However, you're right that the Samsung 830 drives are faster than Intel's SSD's.

I ordered this at $80 from JR but the order is still on backorder... wondering if I should just pay the extra $10 to get this sooner (if at all)

It says free shipping but when I tried to checkout, it told me that I have to pay shipping or pay to join "inner circle" for free shipping. WTF??

I really don't get the infatuation with the Samsung 830. The Intel has been in sale quite often lately and are just as reliable. I have both and they works perfectly. Price is the calling card now

There are different Intel drives. The Samsung 830 isn't necessarily the fastest drive out there, but it has an excellent track record. I don't know what Intel drive you are referring to. The 520...

That's my point. There are better deals to be had. I have one and would pick up another at $70 to RAID, but I can pick up any two SSDs that go on sale and put the one I have in a laptop.

I have 3 of these drives, they are excellent. I got 1 at $90 and I got 2 at $70 each a few months later. I can't imagine paying $90 now after getting 2 for $70 each.

They don't produce these drives anymore and most vendors are low in stock now. The price will shoot up. The deal on 840 drive will start to show up. Sadly, the 840 128 GB sucks.
