Well, my point is... in this specific example, you could get a phone for $99.99 + contract, or $12 + $400 + contract. Carriers can be evil, but I don't think they're THAT evil. Must be a Value Plan...

what you could do is claim that you "lost" the s3, and buy a phone at a non discounted price. this is typically a basic phone valued at around 50 bucks. this will get you out of the data plan.
