I haven't used any non-HSM Sigma lens before. The only other Sigma I have is the 70-200 that also has it. And out of my Nikon glass the only one I have that isn't AF-S is my 50 f/1.8 D. It's great...

I think reviews are favorable. I don't think there is a perfect lens out there, so as long as it's solid, I'd go with that. I wouldn't want to buy something that's cheaper but much crappier

You are right, For canon and nikon, they're around the $330-$450 range used. I was talking about the sigma lens for the sony mount. I'm not sure how much it is now for the sony, but i grabbed it...

This might be decent, but the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 is well renowned, stellar lens for cheaper. This has HSM focusing though. Sigma is known for large variations in quality control.

I have both Canon 24-70 and Tamron 28-75. I use canon lens for work and Tamron for pleasure. If I could have my way, I'd shoot with Tamron all the time. Sigma typically has front focusing issues.
