i corroborated what that commentator in that article wrote. the article writer is conflating Roth IRA with Roth 401k

Just making sure. Roth IRA has NO required min. distribution (while the owner is alive) but the Roth 401K does. I didn't know that. I'll tell hubby. Thanks.

A split is a great way to go. When you retire, you can take your "first" money out of your traditional IRA at 0%, your next money out at 15% tax rate (or even 25% if you want a lot of money out...)....
