It's one of those useless points points that is commonly thrown around here, as if someone would ever use one of these drives for an enterprise server. I'm a sysadmin, and I use high dollar SAN...

Ditto on the amazon price match. Anyone think this will work? EDIT: Nope :(

On the basis of technical understanding of TLC memory, propitiatory data from Samsung and Stanford University, and the fact that Samsung is a mature company that plans to stay in SSD business.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6459/samsung-ssd-840-testing-the-endurance-of-tlc-nand I trust Anandtech. Unless you're talking about writing hundreds of terabytes to it before its hopelessly outdated...

While the writes are slower than the 830 (and not by much), The IOPS writes are higher and so is the reads. This is still a decent SSD IMHO.

Obviously some people, including you cannot read. She had a 120gb 840 and a 256gb 840 pro listed. Read entirely before you comment.
Post #55965484 added 12-12-2012 6:35 AM by Steeldeals in Archived Deals
I believe the 128GB vs. 120GB difference is because the 840 assigns more for overprovisioning, under the assumption that TLC needs more than MLC.

I got in on this. I think its better verse the TD deal recently on these. I'd rather pay the extra $10 verse waiting on the $40 MIR. Though I'm kicking myself for not getting a 830 a few weeks ago...

not bad for 840 pro. Haven't been a deal on it yet.

It's also a repost, but Selma didn't make the mistake of calling it Pro.

Glad to see the merging of threads finally happen :) Seriously? You posted in Selma's original thread and this is dumb consumerism at it's best. That being said this is an okay deal. No TD...

You might want to see this discussion of the weaknesses of TLC vs. MLC and SLC. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5067/understanding-tlc-nand/2 All SSDs are plenty fast for me, but I'm concerned about...

Thats fair, and your original post was only focused on your personal criteria, but for people skimming deal threads because they need/want an SSD in the near term, I'd say that this was a good deal....
Post #55981004 added 12-12-2012 1:08 PM by zhopa in Archived Deals
Unless you're using this for enterprise purposes, you're never going to see an endurance problem with TLC. Considering 830 prices and capacity, this should be a $60-70 drive out the door for this...

Let's talk brass tacks. I'm building a new system, I want an ssd...been looking at different brands, can never hit a deal. I've looked at Kingstons Kyper X 120gb, Intels 330s and 520 series (can...

Wow yeah may have to pickup the 840 pro, nice price on it although would like to see a really good deal on the 830 256 or 512 again.
Post #55964682 added 12-12-2012 6:09 AM by Jocelyn84 in Archived Deals
Sorry. I didn't read wrong, but rather assumed you meant the 120GB seeing as $240 on the Pro isn't that great of a deal.
Post #55964734 added 12-12-2012 6:11 AM by Rexman in Archived Deals
It's not a Pro, it's not an 830, and it's only 120 GB instead of 128 GB like the 830 was. Disappointing - have to give it the ole thumbs down.

http://urlhasbeenblocked/Samsung-Electronics-2-5-Inch-SATA_6_0_gb-MZ-7PD256BW/product/B009NB8WRU No, it's not, that's why I didn't say it's "awesome" you all must buy. Lowest it's been though.

Of course, no one NEEDS a new car, or SSD. ;)
Post #55965052 added 12-12-2012 6:23 AM by Rexman in Archived Deals
Decent, but it's also smaller than the 830, so it needs to drop at least another $10 for me to warm up to the deal.
Post #55965202 added 12-12-2012 6:27 AM by TacoKiller in Archived Deals
I grabbed one to finish this build. Haven't had too many SSD deals lately in the 120-128gb range. Last deal I got in on was last week on Amazon. Kingston HyperX for $75, got 2 of those.

This plus MLC of the 830 > TLC of the 840 non pro
Post #55966254 added 12-12-2012 7:00 AM by Steeldeals in Archived Deals
I agree. TLC doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies either.

Don't count on it happening too soon, Samsung was putting 830's on fire-sale to clear them out and now they're gone. People who say they would wait on this because deals were better on the 830 are...
