I'm looking for a GPS deal with Lifetime Maps and Traffic. I'm pretty much a newbie with gps systems.

Do you have a smartphone? I've found that the smartphone GPS apps have surpassed a standalone GPS in terms of functionality & accuracy. I use Waze (free) and I haven't touched my Garmin in months....

Go with a Garmin, hands down! My parents are elderly, my mom is late 50s my stepdad is 70. My stepdad has Alzheimer's and even he can work the Garmin. I got them this one...

Since it's for your parents, for simplicity of use, I would go with the TomTom as the display is less cluttered and on some models they offer the '3D' maps, which are easier to read too.

For bad GPS,but simple to use the Garmin 50ML at Costco and Refurb. at WalMart $70-110. Mounting can be a problem if you can't vent mount it.
