Yeah, some of this stuff is still floating out there, I picked up the ship game expansion at gamestop for $22 (I think), and They had dragon's nest there too, which was supposed to be a big deal...

i saw this at target. my first thought was sweet you play with a toy and that controls your character.
then i realized this was not the case. i don't the appeal to it. it beats DLC characters...

No if you have the portal from the Original Skylanders it will work with the Skylanders Giants as well. They sell what is a called a Portals Owner pack which just comes with the game and 1 Skylander....
