they're not making money on subscription fees, they are just trying to cover the cost of distribution (postage, plastic wrap packaging, etc) at this point most of the money comes from advertising...

They stopped selling Sports Illustrated. It was 10.00 a year. Some of these magazines have some collectble value to them. Rolling stone for one if it has a good cover. I paid 10.00 for a 3yr...

I've had good luck with Discount Mags. No auto-renewals. I just wish they carried and discounted MacLife, Sunset or Real Simple. I usually get the latter from Amazon for about $12 at Christmas time...

Agree with the above poster, I started a Motor Trend subscription with them and when the 1 year was up, I never renewed and the charges/mags stopped.
