What good is it for if you are not into boxing? Does it just give you endurance for keeping your arms up for a fight? Seems like you could do the same thing with 8lb dumbbells.

Unless you're pretty jacked (lets say bench 2X your body weight), just get the 8lb one. It's hard to do for 2 minutes straight, and is a good way to wrap up a workout.
Worth it IMO.

This is more portable. It seems to set fixed distances for your arms too, not sure how much of a benefit that is, but if provides a different workout and a different exercise for the person training...

Might be a good work out but i can't see that it's much like a speed bag other than general hand motion..
A lot of using the speed bag (well) is timing and coordination which you don't really get...
