From my understanding head parking actually shortens the lifespan. A hard drive only has a certain number of load cycles in its lifespan. Everytime the head is parked it uses one of those cycles....

Exactly. The read/write speeds of this drive is much faster than the 7200 RPM drives from a few years back. If you need 7200 for some reason, go pay more and get a "Black" drive.
