there have been many virus's that will not show in the task manager in the past,,... again it looks like its possible many can be infected without any notice ,, so the best answer Im seeing is "TAPE"...

Well. there was no mention about a mic virus, and even if there were, it wouldn't be anywhere as critical as the webcam. Hopefully, manufacturers will all start installing the little on/off sliding...

You are right about hard wiring it (and they should do it). I do remember reading that malware is able to turn on the cam with out turning on the light.

You could do the tape thing but does not mean they wont have the mic on.... And to the OP that's why they make USB webcams... Pick one up for $20 and plug it in when you need it and unplug it...

that's how it should be and could easily be implemented, but I don't know of any manufacturers that have actually claimed that is the case 100% of the time (for their products)
