I never heard of openmediavault, so I checked it out, looks better then freenas. I have two questions for you, I took a look at the site but at a glance did not see this mentioned? What raid options...
How farimilar are you with WHS2011? I did the same thing but am having all kinds of problems with it.

I was looking at a dedicated NAS. But then I found an awesome mix of a bare bones system and newegg coupon codes that applied (never seen that since - the FP SD probably cost them a good chunk of...

I think OMV is a fork of FreeNAS, with the developer splitting off from that team. I don't know much about RAID on OMV. I use greyhole, personally. It's a much easier recovery if you need to...

Bought this when it was 129.99. I like this server, and it's really hard to get a DIY to be this small and have this many features for $249.99. The downside is that the noise level has sort of a...

It is seriously cool stuff, but it's expensive. From what I priced out, it was about on par with Backup Exec after you add all of the agents and licenses that we needed. I was looking at getting...

FYI the N54L has a slightly faster processor...that's it. Everything else is the same. No USB3, no SATA3, no RAID other than 1 and 0. Also uses more power, 25w vs 15w. I really love my N40L, like...

I love mine but the processor can be a dog for video transcoding. I ran WHS 2011 on it with plex and it would peg the CPU at 100%. I'm running UNRAID now with five drives and its been great. I did...

I bought this last year and love it. H Have been runnning 24/7. It's super quiet and you can put basically 6 x 3.5 disk (with mods). The only complain I have is that there is no support for RAID...

This price would be just okay without a rebate. The rebate makes it meh. Then again, if you need a SFF server and 4 bays is enough, there still aren't many better options.
Thanks for the information. I been seriously pricing out the options here cause I want to do this soon, like in the next few weeks but I think I found something to pull the trigger on. The Zyxel...

That's a pretty subjective question. People are going to say "yes" and "no" and both be right. I would say that the Synology would be better if you didn't care much about price and you were...

FYI the N54L is out already, it's the same machine but with a 2.2ghz processor, and the price is $389. IMO the N40L is plenty. I installed 16Gb of ram and a few 2TB WD red drives and it works great...
