if you aren't afraid of tinkering unraid + esxi = unlimited potential, you sacrifice speed, but get more flexibility in the long run.

Pretty cool. I'm not really sure if I need a NAS right now, but if I do go that direction, this may be a good option. Ideally I'd like a 6-bay USB 3.0 case.

Is each bay maxed out @ 2TB? The 5-year warranty is sweet.

I think that's what you'll get from 212j and I don't think you'll do much better from anyone else in that price range. Moving one big file will probably get you closer to 60 write, but that's not...

I have an older version of the net gear NASs, the NV+. It's been fantastic, can't recommend enough for anyone with a small business or is just crazy about reliability (like me). As far as the...

Yes, It got few reviews but most of them are favorable. It got Intel Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz and 1GB of RAM. So, it should be quite powerful.

HP Microserver N40L can take 6 drives too, with a bit of effort, and only costs ~$300.

If you don't have the "+" model, then it would be a bit slow but not as slow as say D-Link's. I have the 212+ and easily get 50-80MB/sec.

It's the DS212j. 2x2TB drives in SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid). I get around 32MB/s write and 80MB/s read over gigabit wired network, short cat-6 run. For work purposes, it's a little slow for...

Is it just me or is this a really random combo? A 6-bay NAS system with an external drive you can't remove the HD from and a tablet?
Post #57215944 added 01-29-2013 10:47 AM by PharAway in Archived Deals
Yep, pretty random. ~$300 worth of gear offsetting the cost of a $800 NAS.

To answer your 1st question: to some, yes. 300W vs. ~50W for a typical Home/SMB NAS device= ~$20 / month savings for 24/7 operation (local utility rates vary). $20 / month x 12 months = $240...
