you are not using a switch box at all are you, I would try different HDMI cable as well as port on the TV

I would verify that the HDMI cable supports 3D. If the TV and player all support it, it sounds like the link is the cable in between.

Yeah it's definitely not an issue of matching brands, my PS3 and Samny TV play 3D just fine.
