7 random read/writes is good enough for the department of defense and should be for you also. Be prepared to wait a while for it to finish. Then reinstall windows and you are all set.

You can use a program to wipe it. Programs like CCleaner and Erase can do the job. You just have to have the harddrive plugged in while running an OS on another HDD. I suggest at least 3 passes...

I did 5 passes on a 500 GB HDD before and it took over 24 hours total. It was a 5400 RPM drive so it wasn't very fast. I'm assuming the 2TB drive is 5400 RPM? You may have to just let it run...

I like Eraser. I like CCleaner's eraser tool as well. DBAN will make sure you have nothing to be paranoid about.

DBAN, just make sure all your other drives are disconnected before you run it. Wouldn't want to accidentally nuke the data on drives you want to keep.

You don't need to do more than 1 pass because digital recording is not like analog recording, meaning there is no practical benefit to multi-pass erasure, and even a single rewrite completely wipes...
