Even at a 15% discounted rate, buying your employer's stock is too risky. You may want to reconsider that. Buying your own employer's stock is not a good financial idea.

My understanding is you can't contribute to a traditional IRA if your employer offers a retirement program...therefore he would be ineligible and a Roth IRA would be his best choice.
