"802.11 g/n" Does that mean it is older technology becuase it has the "g" in there? I need a new wireless router, but would prefer not to step back.

Nope, it means it can do both, so you're in luck. Also, this only has fast ethernet, aka megabit ethernet. A lot of routers have gigabit ethernet, which gives it theoretically a 10x speed...
