This is considered a "vacation lens", as someone previously eluded to. Most amateur shutterbugs (people with the pro-sumer DSLRs like the Canon T2i, T3i, T4i line) appreciate these types of lenses...

i personally will look into an 18-135 or 18-105. very sharp on wide and decent on max zoom. 18-200 are usually compromising at every level.
Thanks. I needed a little reassurance after purchasing one yesterday. Its a huge lens and I can understand there's a little distortion and even vignetting and extreme distances. But I got it for $190...

I already have a Nikon 18-55 and a Nikon 55-200. is it worth buying this to avoid having to switch lenses?
Nikon lenses will be better than the Tamron, if you don't mind the switching of lenses. I've read they're better at least.

Heck for $3 more you can get the lens, hood, UV filter and cleaning kit on the same site.

Damn I thought this could be an alternative to Pentax 18-135 but don't think quite lives up to par.

I have the EF Canon 18-200 lens. Thought it would come in handy. I used it once, been sitting in a box ever since. What's my point? Yeah, it's terribly handy to have, but the image quality doesn't...

I'm really torn on this. On the one hand, this would certainly do everything I need it to for backpacking photography (where most of my best shots come from). The caveat is of course image quality,...

It's a good tourist lens. You're trading off image quality and aperture for a large zoom range. Perfectly fine if you're going on vacation and plan on doing mostly daylight photography.

No VR capability, I take it? Max aperture is 3.5 which is similar to the Nikon 18-300 lens. Is it 1/10th of the price of Nikon 18-200 because it has no VR and is all plastic or is there more to it?

Set up a lens correction profile in Lightroom that fixes your photos every time you sync. This, plus the versatility of having such a broad zoom range is worth the trade off in convenience and price....

Not bad. They're normally $300. Amazon just priced matched to $200 for Canon, Pentax, and Sony, but limited stock.

Tamron makes some decent glass when it comes to zooms like these... Although sometimes Nikkor refurbished versions can get near this price.

if you're talking about canon, 18-135 lens is a good one. If you want a zoom lens, i think the best bang for the buck is the 70-300. Yea, the 70-300 is pricey, but take if from a person who bought...
