This isn't the same connection as SATA, it's micro SATA. The drive fits into a small port inside laptops that support it, leaving the regular SATA bay available.

As far as I know, we cannot upgrade the SSD and memory in UX31a because UX31a uses a propreitary slot. I love my ux31a except for these non upgradeable options.
