I got 4 drives from NCIX for $147 each. One drive failed and sent it back for replacement. I had to pay shipping. That's odd!

Price is currently $147.47 at Amazon! I'm pulling the trigger on this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008JJLW4M/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Debating pulling the trigger, might just walk down the street to Fry's Electronics and have them price-match Amazon. I lose $15 in taxes, but if its DOA I can just get another one right away

think part of it is Newegg doesn't always ship them properly packed and the rest might be user error with their systems not recognizing 3TB drives

The larger sizes always (or almost always) fail at a slightly higher rate, but it's a lot better now than it was before.

Dunno where you made up that wattage figure even the Black 1TB consumes 9W at idle, generates more heat and they don't even offer it n 3TB.

Newegg is a great place I buy there regularly but its well known that they don't pack HDD's correctly that's add greatly to failure rates and DOA's.

Man, I can't decide if I want the Red Drive or pay $20 more for the HGST 4TB newegg.com] or the Seagate 4TB for $10 more at Costco.

My 2TB WD Caviar Green drive died shortly after two years (shortly after the warranty of course). Maybe it was just a case of bad luck. Still, I think i'd pay more for a drive with a longer warranty....

It could be that Newegg has a bad batch on their hands. I don't really trust Amazon reviews anymore. I purchased one from Newegg a few weeks back and it arrived DOA. I RMA'd it directly with...

(2) 3TB running 24/7 in my Synology NAS since November. Not a single problem. Both worked fine right out the box. Ordered mine from Amazon though. Way too many DOA's from the Newegg reviews.

You don't buy these for speed. You buy them for low power, low noise, low heat, and reliability when on 24/7.
