There is no limit that I know of. I have had ~35 keys at one point.

They open the golden chest in Sanctuary, which gives two purple weapons, generally better than anything you can find in the wild.

234 is the max number of keys you can be holding. Or maybe that's the max number it will display? There was a trick you could do in the first week where you could just manually input how many keys...

Man, I didn't realize that these shift codes are XBL gold only. I have gold, but that really sucks for anyone who has this game and doesn't.
