That is the only reason. Additional controllers to have in convenient locations. You could have a few around the house with configurations for firing scenes specific to that room/part of the house....

This is definitley a good replacement for the app at least while you are in the home. i find myself only using the app when i am away from the house and want to control things remotely.

A zwave network can only have 1 primary controller which is your bridge, vera ling, usb dongle etc. A secondary controller will control each unit individually. You do not use scenes you already made...
