From 1280x1024 I would go with the bigger 27s that are 2560 wide. (2x1280) Especially if this is for work.

ASUS has horrible quality control with their monitors. I'm using one right now and it has a nice smudge like mark on it. I deal with it but a lot of their monitors have problems like this.
