At a price of $5, there is perhaps 1000% markup on products like this. Without the rebate, 20 cents would be a fair price. Consider that 20 cents is probably pretty close to the fair market value...

well, since SSD has no vibration, as long as it fits, I don't see plastic or steel would really made much difference.
I used duct tape for my ssd for about a year and it works just fine.

That's pretty much what I do with SSDs. I use velcro strips (with thin foam padding on the underside of the drive to keep it from getting scratched). I like the slim form factor 2.5" to 3.5" adapters...
