I don't see it being cheaper. The TS-869 Pro is $100 more than the sale price of the 1812+ or $50 more than the normal Amazon price. The SS-839 is around the same price as the 1812.

Having used a 4 bay synology vs personally owning the qnap, I would have to say I prefer the QNAP. Much better looking/built box, better more stable software and way more ports. Also cheaper.

WD Reds work fine and are on their approved drive list.
