Yeah, usually if you are a student of some sort of higher ed places you can pick up a copy of OS along with MSFT office suite for less than $20.

Sign up for a course @ the local community college.
After you get the .edu email you can buy a student copy of the OS for cheap.
After you buy the OS, drop the course and get your $$ back.
