Yup, different requirements, different experiences. That's why (aside from ignorance) many cameras still sell. It's a shame the LX7 doesn't fit or even the Olypmus XZ-1 in the $200 range.

Well... there's the DP1m/DP2m. They cost more and they are PITA cameras to use. They do have better IQ though being APS-C sensored and Foveon. Not as good all arounders but for what they are good...
