I would rather get a noisy one than a hot one, my Seagate 3TB and 4TB external can goes up to 63 C. Don't know much about this Toshiba though, don't think it has a fan inside enclosure neither.

This is a great HD. I have one of these. Bought it when Best Buy had their $50 off $100 when using a mastercard promotion. Ended up paying around 60 something for a 3TB. Can't complaint one bit.

Toshiba's 3.5" drives are Hitachis/HGSTs... so you should be basing your past experience on those, which are generally considered to be top of the line - especially for RAID environments.
