it may or may not work with win7/8. the reason i pointed that out was i purchased a DVD burner a while back and while it works on winXP/7, it does not work on win8.

looks like i found the answer and it is windows 8 that was the problem, not the DVD drive. Fix: DVD Drive Not Detected In Windows 8 this is one fix to tuck away and save.
