So do you think someone with a D5100 and a Nikkor 50mm 1.8 who prefers taking landscapes should pick this up or save up more for a more wide angle lens? Thanks!

Sigma is shipping the new 30mm f/1.4 this month for $499, in case anyone's interested. There's no guarantee the new model will have the nice bokeh of the old model.

In reality, very little. Both of these are in the "normal" range for a DX sensor, and will look like a 42-50mm on a full frame (or traditional 35mm) camera. The difference between 1.4 and 1.8 will...

There's less demand for the Nikon mount version because most people prefer the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 instead. The Canon doesn't have a very good alternative as the 35mm f/2 is of very old design build...

The Sigma here is slightly wider and is capable of taking in twice as much light (1.4 vs 1.8). I can't speak for image quality/sharpeness as I've never used this lens before.

Not surprised that the canon mount is not at this price. They (sigma) dont have to compete with the overpriced canon lenses. Nikon 35mm can be had for under $200.
