Not only what komondor said, there is no guarantee that you are saving that modified file in the same location on your physical disk as the old file.

ah but how do you know you are writing over the old file that is why you need a program to wipe ALL the unused space on your drive

To truly zap a file to Kingdom Come, copy a larger file to the file. That will overwrite the file with the data from another file. Completely unrecoverable by anyone except a state spy agency.

no it can be recovered only something like this http://www.east-tec.com/eraser/ they have a free trial delete the file then empty recycle bin then run it

Considering text programs like word, wordpad, and notepad: If you edit out all the text (delete) in a document prior to deleting the file - can it be recovered? Or is that pretty fail safe?
