I'm happy with my $99 Lenovo Thinkpad. I'm using it right now. It is over five years old. So I'd recommend Lenovo. :bounce:

There's no 27" IPS screen in the world that's as portable as a laptop.
My seven year old ThinkPad surfs the internet and does office type stuff just fine, though it's no longer a top performer.

I don't see a good reason for such an $$ laptop.
1. for at home use, you should be using an external keyboard, mouse, monitor anyway. I would rather get an $500 ips 27" monitor and $500 laptop ...

I would agree here a Lenovo T Series is pretty good. The OP's requirements are not anything demanding, and pretty standard for a mid range machine. Screen resolution will limit some machines but...

I don't think anyone outside of Apple and Google are making retina LCDs for notebooks. The ThinkPad T530 checks most of your boxes. I don't know much about the trackpad, but the stick is better...
