I'd start on 3, then 4, because 4 introduces some interface changes that you'll wish 3 had. If you're still itching for more after 200hrs of Persona then revisit the first two.

I'd have recommend selling it, but it looks like Atlus went ahead and reprinted it for the PS2. A few years back, even used copies were selling for quite a bit. Now worth less than $20. Shame.

Yep! All purchases through PSN pass through the wallet, whether it's by credit card or pre-paid card. You add funds to your wallet then they are used for the purchase.
