If you need a filter that is ie: 20x14x1 (LxWxH) and you can only find 20x20x1, it won't hurt to put them in as long as you aren't tripping on it walking by. Slightly bigger is a much better...

Be sure to shop your local warehouses and Targets. My local Target had the 1500 3-packs for about $15 on sale. Costco sold the 3-pack but I forget how much.
