Since this is a Newegg deal, Please read the recent Newegg reviews of this drive. Many Dead on Arrival and many more died within few months. Either quality control problem of newer drive. Or problem...

I wouldn't go putting black drives in any type of NAS environment. Though they get the 5 year warranty, they get hot and cramped in such a close environment, it's not good for the life of the drive....

For desktop's the WD blacks are generally the best drives imo (butthey are not cheap comparitively). That said I have never tried a WD red. I know they are for NASs, but has any one stuck them in a...

I just bought 2 of these Red drives and plan to put them into my TiVo Premiere boxes. Hopefully will work just as well as the Green drive that is in one of my other Premiere's.

I know the red drives are slower but I find the noise of black and RE4 drives unbearable. Will running the red as a primary drive cause some sort of pre-mature failure or something?

To be fair, a lot of these reviews are people complaining about dead drives after shipping. This can happen to any brand of drive, and can also be attributed to NewEgg's use or lack of proper...

I was just going to use them as raided data drives. The OS is on another HDD.

OOS Dead. BOO wish I had looked earlier, nice deal.

This is a good price, been waiting for these to drop again. They've only dropped below $100 twice before.

Could have picked it up earlier this week from urlhasbeenblocked for $94. So again WTF, how is this a good price?

In for four! I actually should've pushed it and get five for the new 5-bay Synology that I ordered a few days ago but four is already more than the budget although this is a really great deal. No...

I wish the 3 TB version was similarly discounted. I need to fill the four bays of my HP N54L from a few days ago, and I figure there's no sense putting in 2TB drives if I plan to keep it stable for...
be careful, once you go black you never go back Yeah I think so... I have a 2TB red in my HTPC I watch shows/movies on that I download and leave there for storage... no issues so far. As...

Here's a review of how they perform in Synology NAS units. http://www.storagereview.com/western_digital_red_nas_hard_drive_review_wd30efrx As to desktop storage, they're not designed for that...

I have four 640gb blues that have lived in raid 5 24/7 for 5 years and are still going strong. I'll actually be moving to 4 of the Reds in raid 5 and then two 640s in raid 1 for absolutely vital...

So the same reason you don't want to buy a 2.5" black drive for laptop also? Because most laptop harddrive area is cramped and black drive (even 2.5" one) will get hot and die quick?
Post #58415814 added 03-23-2013 9:21 AM by DangerIsGo in Archived Deals
Laptops are different. Its just a single drive. NASs have multiple drives, all generating a lot of heat in a cramped environment

Ah, I folded, cancelled the four drives I ordered this morning and reordered five for the Synology 1512+ we ordered this week. Hopefully both orders will be here early next week. In fact, Newegg has...

The black is faster but the red is designed to perform better for NAS applications. For photo work (I'm a wedding photographer), you don't need the fastest and greatest hard drive UNLESS you do a lot...

Yeah... that's what I thought a couple years ago when 2TB HDDs were regularly selling for $70 and I was waiting for them to go to $60.

Wow...$100 for 2TB is now FP? I paid $60 for 2TB Samsung a while ago.

anyone figure out why Western Digital is marketing a Taylor Swift line of hard drives?

Too bad the recent reviews at Newegg, many dead on arrival and many failed within few months. Something wrong with either recent WD Red quality or how Newegg's warehouse handle this WD Red hard...

I have this red to back up my 2 1TB blues. I got it a few months back for ~$89. I would still buy at this price.

Not a slick deal. Sick of these mediocre newegg.com HD prices making the FP. Newegg.com overpriced all their HDs to begin with.

Hm... 2TB Red for $100. Is it better to stay with Red or Black for storage?
Post #58419074 added 03-23-2013 12:53 PM by K6-2 in Archived Deals
No, use WD Blacks. (or just replace the Blues if you'd rather.) Reds aren't suitable. It's not that you can't install them or they won't "work," it's just that they're intended for use in a RAID...

This is a pretty good storage drive. I have this on my spare box that's on 24/7 writing webcam videos and it's been solid. I also have various backups on there.
